Chapter 7 (A Happening at an Inn Part 1)

Nanashi was once again flying on the chicken monster’s back. The only way he was convinced to get on it again was that they have two days to get to Jalya, and it’s a four day walk from where they were. With the sun setting, it was getting harder to see the ground, but Nanashi was slowly getting used to looking around while on the monster. Before it got too dark to see the ground at all, Nanashi saw a long, thick line of burnet ground going off as far as he could see.

“What’s that long line?” Nanashi shouted.

“That’s a memento from our Overlord, when he took the powers of the old Overlord, he felt the need to test them out. There are three great scars covering Suren, and we use them now to determine the smaller provinces. Why don't you know that though Nanashi?” Sylic shouted back.

          “Umm, I...” Nanshsi stammered.

“Look, just concentrate on getting us to an Inn okay,” Yatsui shouted, “I don't want to die before I see Jalya for myself.”

After flying for a while, Sylic landed the chicken monster in a town next to a mountain range. The group looked around for an Inn and found a decent looking one with a sign outside stating Free Night For Jalya Ticket Holders!

“What do you think is it a trap?” Sylic asked.

“I think you need to have faith in people,” Nanashi said. With that statement he slid open the door and took his first step into a building in Suren. With that first step, Nanashi managed to step on a small fuzzy creature, which ran away from him and squeaked curses at him.

A man with long blond hair and white wings walked up to them.
”How dare of you to step on my pet,
and for that upon you I place my curse beset,
and in this you will take your leave,
or to your fate I ensure you will grieve!” the man said to them. The small white creature ran up onto the man’s shoulder and glared at Nanashi.

I'm sorry for that, I didn't mean... to... What did you say,” Nanashi asked confusedly.

“Alas, no one can understand,
the will of divine or a masterplan,
least of all my speech,
yet your step on Pam offends me more than the least.” he chanted to Nanashi.

Sylic and Yatsui walked into the Inn after Nanashi. Seeing Nanashi and the man talking, Sylic asked, “Who are you angel?”

”Tenshi is my name and trace,
yet upon this woman I see an agelic face,
with her I desire the greatly,
I feel my heart beating oh so faintly.”

Yatsui recoiled from Tenchi and glared at him, “It's late and I just want to sleep. Tell me where the Innkeep is and get out of my face.”

“An innkeeper is what you want I see,
but with the face of on angel on thee,
I thought it was your love that brought you here,
but the innkeeper is across there, my dear.”

Ignoring everything else, Yatsui walked over to the table the innkeeper sat at and slapped her ticket she got from Sylic on the table. “Give me a room key now,” she growled at him. Barely looking up, the Innkeeper slid a key for her across the table, which she snatched up and stomped down the hallway.

Sylic went over and grabbed a room key for himself and motioned for Nanashi to follow. Bowing to Tenchi, Nanashi apologized one last time “Goodbye Tenchi, and sorry again about Pam.”

“No offense I took,
For that beautiful face I saw,
and the ills of the world I forsook,
For I'm sure that Pam will be fine in tail and paw,
She is a very hardy ferret indeed,
solely because I am a cleric in creed,” Tenchi said, waving in farewell.

Nanashi ran after Sylic and went into a small bedroom. It was a wooden room, with two small beds with a large trunk at the foot of each, and a wooden chair in the corner. Between the beds a candle sat on an end table, flickering and lighting the room a little bit. Sylic crawled onto the nearest bed and started to get himself comfortable.

“Wait,” Nanashi said, “are we just going to sleep in our clothes?”

Opening one eye and looking at Nanashi, Sylic said, “The way I see it, you have three options: you can sleep in your clothes, if you brought any you can sleep in pajamas, or you can undress and sleep naked.”

“I think I’ll sleep in my clothes.”

“Good boy, now get some sleep.” With that, Sylic quickly fell asleep. Nanashi took his boots of and set them on the trunk at the end of his bed. He crawled under the covers and realized how tired he was. In no time at all, he fell asleep.

Nanashi had a very strange dream that night. He was walking through a dark forest, looking for something. Even though this was the first time he’d seen this place, he felt no fear and kept on walking. It didn’t take long for him to find something, which turned out to be a girl running away from a dark smog that reeked of monsters.

Nanashi ran forward to go help her, and just as he was getting close to her, she tripped and fell. He needed to help her, but he didn’t know how to get to her in time. He started to hum some kind of energy, and he ran even faster than he should have been able to. Grabbing the girl’s arm and pulling her back onto her feet into a run again.

“You can’t give up now, we’re just getting started,” he said to the girl, looking at her with a big smile. He saw a V shaped scar on her forehead, and realized that the girl was actually Yatsui. Together, they ran farther into the forest, and farther away from the smog of monsters. At one point Yatsui slowed down a little and shivered, but she quickly regained her composure and kept running.

“Over here!” Someone called. In the distance, Nanashi saw the silhouette of someone pointing towards a light farther in the forest that he felt he could trust.

They started to run towards the person when a terrible feeling came over Nanashi. His body felt heavy and he started to shiver uncontrollably. Even though he was running he felt like he needed to move. The moment fell away as quickly as it came, and Nanashi was very confused.

The two continued to run closer to the mysterious person. Nanashi was starting to be able to see who the person was, but he could only make out long black hair, a large furry tail, and cat ears atop the persons head. Just before their face came into view, Nanashi sat upright and was awake.
